Thomas J. Shields is the co-founder and Managing Director of Shields & Company, Inc., an investment banking firm focused on corporate finance services for middle-market public and private companies.  The firm, founded in 1991, has subsequently grown from its Boston origins to represent companies, their Boards of Directors, and management teams throughout the United States.  Based in Waltham, Massachusetts, Shields & Co. specializes in mergers & acquisitions, debt and equity capital raising, valuations and fairness opinions, and strategic financial advisory services across a range of industries.

Tom grew up on Long Island, New York.  He graduated from Harvard College in 1969 and from Harvard Business School in 1973, following his service in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.  Prior to his firm’s formation, Tom was employed in various corporate finance capacities at Bear, Stearns & Co., ultimately as Managing Director. 

Tom is, and has been, a member of various corporate and non-profit Boards of Directors.  He currently serves on the Boards of Clean Harbors, Inc., Ensign Bickford Industries, Inc. and Jones & Vining, Inc., previously serving on the Board of B.J.’s Wholesale Clubs, Inc.  Formerly the Chairman and a trustee of Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Tom currently serves on the Investment Committee of Boston Medical Center and the New England Wildlife Center.  Tom remains involved in Harvard alumni affairs, actively serving as a director of the Harvard Alumni Association and the HBS Alumni Board.  Tom and his wife, Jan, with whom he co-founded the firm, currently live in Waltham.

CANCELLATION policy

 

All cancellations must be made in writing to karenr@feiboston.org prior to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, 2016. All cancellations will incur a $15 processing fee. We will not refund any cancellations made after the 9th.

Financial Executives International (FEI) is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Complaints regarding registered sponsors may be submitted to the National Registry of CPE Sponsors through its website: www.learningmarket.org.

For FEI CPE credits, one credit hour equals 50 minutes according to NASBA guidelines. Some states boards may differ on how many minutes constitute a credit hour.
