Zoom Virtual Meetings Tips and Tricks

Attendee Tips and Tricks:

  • Sign in early! Give yourself an extra 5-10 minutes to get comfortable, set up, and get assistance if needed.
  • Orient your view! Use the Gallery View to see all participants or the Speaker View to only focus on the primary speaker/presenter. Remember to adjust your camera for the best angle of yourself!
  • Use the Chat! Got a question for our presenter? Type your comments and questions in the chat bar during the session.
  • Not comfortable on camera? Upload a headshot or stock photo in place of a live video feed. And be sure to include your name under your image!
  • Don’t share your screen!
  • Test your video and audio before your meeting at zoom.us/test.

Speaker Tips and Tricks:

  • Sign in early! Give yourself an extra 15-20 minutes to get comfortable, set up, and get assistance if needed.
  • When possible, try to use a good quality camera and headset instead of your computer’s built-in ones. Zoom works just fine with the built-ins, but the quality is even sharper with higher quality hardware.
  • Test your video and audio before your meeting at zoom.us/test.
  • If you can, connect to the internet via an ethernet cable. Zoom works well on wireless all the way down to 3G, but the quality is best on a solid wired internet connection, so wire in when you can. Otherwise, just make sure you have serviceable Wi-Fi.
  • When it is your time to present you will be introduced - at that time, take yourself off mute, share your screen and begin.
  • Hard wire if you can to prevent any technical issues.
  • After your presentation, hit stop screen share and mute yourself.
