What is the Professional Development Committee?

The Professional Development Committee coordinates the FEI Boston Chapter's events known as "PD" sessions. These sessions are CPE qualified learning opportunities in which our Chapter Sponsors participate through a combination of sponsor presenter and session moderating activities. The PD Committee incorporates chapter member feedback in developing the session topics of most interest, and then arranges all aspects of conducting the sessions. The committee is comprised of both FEI members and FEI Sponsors.

What role do volunteers play in the Professional Development Committee?

Volunteers contribute to the committee and the vibrancy of programs significantly by bringing ideas and perspective to the program development process. Committee members (and Chairs) serve as "session captains" once or twice each season. In addition to being the moderator/onsite coordinator for a given session, a "captain" is typically responsible for: contacting the presenters, guiding the agenda, drafting event marketing pieces, arranging for the collection of CPE qualification materials, and arranging on-site logistics the day of the assigned session. The committee Chair and our chapter Administrator provide support throughout this process.

Does assisting with the Professional Development Committee require in-person meetings, etc.?

Committee meetings are generally held at least once a month and conducted via conference call. Some members may convene in person to participate in the call when convenient. A session captain will have additional calls and email exchanges with the participants in the upcoming session. Planning / brainstorming meetings are held in Spring and Summer to prepare session ideas for each upcoming FEI season and coordinate the assignment of sponsors and captains.
